Churchill High School Weekly Newsletter

April 12, 2026
Family Bulletin header with red text, a newspaper titled 'NEWS,' and a pair of black-framed glasses resting on the newspaper.
Dear Churchill Families,

I’ll be honest, this has been the fastest-moving school year I have ever experienced in my career. This week officially marks the three-quarter mark of the academic year. While the finish line is coming into view, we are entering a critical two-month stretch of education that can often feel like a long haul for our students.

The Home Stretch: Attendance and Focus
Now, more than ever, we need your partnership. Please remind your students at home of the importance of showing up, being on time, and staying focused. A special word for our Seniors: Senioritis is a very real thing, and we understand the urge to coast when you’re so close to the end. However, these final months are vital. They still count toward your requirements, and now is not the time to slack. You’ve worked too hard for four years to stumble in the final mile; let's finish strong and ensure everyone walks across that stage.

Important District Budget Update
Many of you may be following the district news, but I want to ensure our entire community is looped in on the current budget situation.

Our district is facing major budget cuts for the upcoming school year. While we initially prepared for a 30 million dollar deficit, that figure has now grown, potentially reaching 40 to 50 million dollars. For a district the size of 4J, this is a staggering amount.

Since roughly 90 percent of our budget is dedicated to staffing, these cuts have a direct and painful impact on people. This past week, several teachers right here at Churchill and across the district were informed that their positions have been impacted for next year.

While we are professionals and remain 100 percent committed to our students until the final bell of summer, I want to be transparent about the impact this has on our staff. These are colleagues we care about deeply. Our staff has been incredible at supporting and checking in on one another, but I believe it is important for our families to understand the weight some of our educators are carrying right now.

Celebrating Churchill Excellence
Despite the challenges, the spirit of our students remains a bright spot in our hallways. There is so much to celebrate:

  • Drama: A huge congratulations to our Drama Department! Our state qualifiers recently competed and represented Churchill with incredible talent.
  • Athletics: Spring sports are in full swing, and we are already seeing some big wins on the board.
  • Spring Musical: Please keep an eye out for ticket sales for our upcoming musical production. If you haven’t attended a Churchill performance before, you are missing out on a professional-grade experience. Our students and staff pour their hearts into these shows, and they are truly a must-see.

As always, my door is open. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns as we navigate these final months together.

Go Lancers!
