Shining Armor: A Spotlight on Lancer Pride

Celebrating Our Amazing Assistant Principals!
As Assistant Principals Week (April 7-11) comes to a close, we at Churchill High School want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for the incredible dedication and hard work of our Assistant Principals, Dr. Kim Vangel and Dr. Rob Hess.

Our APs are truly the backbone of Churchill High School. Every day, they go above and beyond to support our Lancers' access to learning and vital educational resources. Their commitment to fostering a safe and positive school environment is evident in their consistent presence, whether they are supervising hallways, supporting classrooms, or ensuring the smooth running of special events.

But their contributions extend far beyond these essential tasks. Dr. Vangel and Dr. Hess are invaluable leaders, mentors, and problem-solvers who positively impact the lives of our students and staff in countless ways.

Thank you, Dr. Vangel and Dr. Hess, for your unwavering dedication to Churchill High School and our Lancer community! Your hard work and commitment to our students are deeply appreciated.

Arts and Culture Spotlight
This week’s spotlight is on Churchill’s extremely talented choral groups, led by Dr. Julian Jones, in an event on April 4th. The collaborative concert included InAccord, a Eugene community choir, as well as students from ATA Middle School. The event was inspiring, and also debuted a performance from Churchill’s own Irish Trio, Següe.
A choir of approximately fifty people of various ages stands on a stage, facing a conductor with their backs to the audience. The choir members are dressed in dark clothing and are positioned on risers. On the left side of the stage, a person in a wheelchair, also dressed in black, is clapping. The conductor, with short white hair and wearing a black outfit, stands at a podium with sheet music, gesturing towards the choir. Microphones on stands are positioned in front of the conductor. Behind the choir, there is a light-colored backdrop with dark curtains partially visible on the sides. A large potted fern sits on the right side of the stage. The stage floor is dark and reflective.
A wide shot shows a large choir, consisting of approximately sixty individuals of varying ages, performing on a stage with their arms raised in the air. They are all dressed in black attire and appear to be singing with enthusiasm. A conductor with short, light-colored hair, also dressed in black, stands facing them with their back to the viewer, seemingly leading the performance. Two large potted fern plants are situated on the right side of the stage. The backdrop is a plain, light-colored wall. The stage floor is dark, and some microphone stands are visible in the foreground. On the far left, a person in a wheelchair is visible, and on the far right, a person sits on a chair, both appearing to be part of the audience or participants. The overall lighting suggests an indoor performance setting.
A wide shot captures a large choir of approximately fifty to sixty individuals of various ages standing on risers in what appears to be a school music room. The choir members are dressed uniformly in black attire. In the foreground, a black grand piano with a bench sits prominently. To the left of the piano, a person in a wheelchair, also dressed in black, is visible. A conductor is not clearly visible in this frame. The background of the room features beige walls with blue trim, a whiteboard with writing on the left, a bookshelf, and several colorful posters or artwork displayed along the top of the back wall. The floor has a patterned tile. The lighting suggests an indoor, possibly fluorescent, lighting environment. The overall impression is a group photo of a school or community choir.
Three young individuals are performing on a stage. On the left, a person with short brown hair and glasses stands holding a microphone. In the center, another person with curly dark hair sits on a stool playing an acoustic guitar and singing into a microphone. On the right, a third person with long brown hair pulled back stands holding a microphone and a tambourine. All three are dressed in dark clothing. A large potted fern sits on the right side of the stage. The background features a light-colored, multi-tiered stage backdrop with blue curtains partially visible on the left. Wires and equipment are visible on the stage floor in the foreground. The lighting suggests a performance setting.
