A Message from the Principal
Senior Families,

We are coming to a close of our seniors' time here as Churchill Lancers, and June 11th is right around the corner! As we approach the last week of school, I wanted to share a few reminders and thank yous.

The Senior Parade through our feeder Elementary and Middle schools is on Tuesday, June 4th. For those seniors who want to participate, we will need a field trip permission slip filled out and returned to school by Tuesday at 9:00 am at the front office.  We will then board the school buses at 12:15 pm to travel to the different schools to "parade" through the hallways, wearing our caps and gowns, high-fiving students and staff, and being celebrated at each building. This is a wonderful tradition we do each year to remember the past 13 years of education, say thank you to those staff who helped us get to graduation, as well as be an example and model to the younger students who will soon be Lancers as well. Every graduate is welcome to join if they want.

I also wanted to remind families that graduation is not only a celebration but a ceremony. We want to honor the fact that all of our graduates have endured significant disruption in their education (COVID, schedule changes...) and that this graduation is not only representative of their long hard work but also of the privilege we all have in supporting them being able to gather for this occasion. The ceremony starts when the caps and gowns are put on and continues as they walk across the stage having each student's name read aloud. The celebration begins the moment the caps are thrown and the loud cheers are heard throughout the Hult Center.

With the current political climate in the world, there are questions about whether students can decorate their caps with representations of the Israeli/Palestinian flag. I have checked in with District Administration and these representations are allowed. We also want to honor our affinity groups with their regalia as well as other cultural representations. The Hult Center also has some information and expectations that they wanted us to share with you.

On June 11th, we will have our Senior Breakfast at 8:00 am, at The Eugene Faith Center; tickets for this event can be purchased this week (see the information below). We then need all students who are participating in the graduation ceremony to be at the Hult Center, in Studio One, by 9:30 am for the graduation rehearsal. This rehearsal should be complete by 11:00 am. Students will be released and then expected to be back at the Hult Center, in Studio One, by 6:00 pm sharp, caps and gowns on, ready for the traditional class picture on the steps, and then lining up to start the graduation ceremony. It will be a busy day, but also an amazing day full of memories!

I always look forward to Graduation. It is our culminating event, our "Superbowl", our wonderful prize at the end of the 4-year tunnel that is high school! We work year after year to get kids to this finish line, and I look forward to celebrating with you all.
