African American You Should Know

Mary Church Terrell was the first African-American woman to earn a college degree in America, which she used to become a prominent teacher and activist for rights for women, specifically opportunities for African American women! She advocated heavily for women's suffrage through National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) to fight for the 19th Amendment while pushing for the inclusion of Black women, being an unsung hero for the movement, gender equity through founding the National Association for Colored Women in the late 1890's to give support and a voice for marginalized women, led protests regarding civil rights, and served as the first woman on the D.C. Board of Education as a charter school teacher.

Churchill High School Theatre Tech is gearing up for the spring production, and we are looking for new students. We've got positions to fill in all departments. Whether you want to learn about sound, lights, backstage, prop making, costumes, or make-up, we have a place for you. Come to our weekly meetings at 3:45 pm in the auditorium every Wednesday!

Girls Tennis Meeting

After school on Wednesday, in H22, there will be a girls’ tennis interest and coach introduction meeting. Come meet our new coach and get information on the upcoming season! If you have any interest at all in playing tennis, please show up. Practice after is TBD due to the weather. Updates on the Churchill Girls Tennis Instagram will be sent out.

Afroamericana que deberías conocer

Mary Church Terrell fue la primera mujer afroamericana en obtener un título universitario en Estados Unidos, título que aprovechó para convertirse en una destacada profesora y activista por los derechos de las mujeres, ¡específicamente por las oportunidades para las mujeres afroamericanas! Abogó firmemente por el sufragio femenino a través de la Asociación Nacional Estadounidense por el Sufragio Femenino (NAWSA), luchó por la 19.ª Enmienda y promovió la inclusión de las mujeres negras. Fue una heroína anónima del movimiento y por la equidad de género al fundar la Asociación Nacional para Mujeres de Color a finales de la década de 1890 para brindar apoyo y voz a las mujeres marginadas.
