It’s School Choice Time
See what our schools offer!
In Eugene School District 4J, every school offers an excellent education for our students. Students may enroll in their neighborhood school at any time, or may request to enroll in a different 4J school provided there is space available. School choice requests will be accepted in an order determined by lottery.

High Schools:
Churchill, North, Sheldon, South, Churchill IHS, Sheldon IHS, South IHS

To be included in the lottery, 4J residents must submit a request form by January 31 at midnight. Non-district residents must submit a request form between March 1 and 31. All students who want to obtain a transfer must submit a request form, including new incoming siblings and students who have moved out of the district and want to remain enrolled next year. Not all schools are open to non-district resident requests.

Virtual and in-person school visits are scheduled in the month of January. If you have any friends or family members who are considering school choice, please invite them to learn more about their school choice options!

Counselor Corner
Welcome back from Winter Break! We’re gearing up for the start of Semester 2 on February 3. Keep working hard as we end Semester 1 – we’re almost there.
 
This week in Advisory students checked their Semester 2 schedules. Things to consider: 
 
1) Are you in the correct courses?
2) Do you have what you need for graduation?
3) If you’re involved in athletics, are you meeting eligibility requirements?
4) Are you taking the courses you need to meet your goals for life after high school?
 
Seniors – if you are attending further schooling after high school, it’s important to double-check that you are meeting admissions requirements.
 
Schedule correction forms should be posted in the middle of next week on the CHS website. Once the correction form is posted, all students should submit their Semester 2 corrections using the form.
 
If you have any questions make sure to see your School Counselor. Our CHS School Counselors are:

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS 2025: For current Juniors and Seniors 
  • Registration Opens - Monday, January 27th, 2025 at 9:00 AM 
  • Registration Closes - Monday, February 24th, 5:00 PM 
  • Have your student mark their calendars and apply for Elevate Paid Summer Internships. These are available to current Lane County high school Juniors and Seniors. These internships are unique because Elevate (a teen career exploration program by Connected Lane County) finds internship hosts based on the interns' interests. Interns will begin with an orientation and a financial foundations course before starting their 40-hour weekly internship with a local company. The entire internship experience lasts seven weeks and totals approximately 220 hours of valuable hands-on experience and work-based learning. Registration opens on Monday, January 27, 2025, and closes on Monday, February 24, 2025. Apply as soon as possible. The experience will take place in July and August. Stay tuned for more information! Here’s how you can contribute and spread some kindness:  
  • Shop from the Churchill High School Amazon Wish List to find items that our students need.  
  • Donate to Mike's Closet or the Churchill Food Pantry. We’re currently seeking food items such as Mac and Cheese Cups, Fruit Cups, and Granola Bars, as well as toiletries like feminine hygiene products, deodorant, and body wash. Clothing donations like new socks, underwear, and sweatshirts are also greatly appreciated.  
  • Small gift cards allow us to fill in gaps and ensure we have what we need to support our students! 

Feel free to drop off any donations at Churchill’s Front Office, Attention: Mike's Closet.

Quest by Cycle Badge Design Contest - Calling All Young Artists!
The bicycling game Quest by Cycle has been awarded a grant to host the Quest by Cycle Badge Design Contest, a unique opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and contribute to a community-wide environmental initiative. Quest by Cycle (QbC) is a scavenger hunt-style game that encourages players to complete eco-friendly cycling tasks and earn badges as recognition for their accomplishments.

This contest invites artists of all ages to design badges that will be awarded to players in the Quest by Cycle game who complete sustainable cycling quests. These badges not only recognize achievements but also motivate players to stay engaged with the game and commit to reducing their carbon footprint.

Key Details:

  • Submission Dates: February 1–28, 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to artists of all ages, with a special focus on youth and underrepresented artists
  • Entry Fee: Free
  • Prizes and Recognition:

Upstart Crow Youth Theater (UCYT) is a busy, creative hub for kids and teens *newly located* at 2101 Bailey Hill Road in Eugene. Our program offers theatre classes, summer camps, and inclusive casting in our fully produced and staged musical theatre productions!
Winter/Spring classes begin the week of January 20th!
