Dear Churchill Families,

We’re gearing up for a full and productive week before heading into Thanksgiving break, and there is a lot of positive energy on campus. Students are working hard, and we appreciate everything you do to keep our school community strong and connected.

As we prepare for fall conferences, please remember to sign up if you would like to meet with your student’s teachers. These meetings are a valuable way to stay connected and support your child’s progress.

A huge shout-out to the parents who are helping provide meals for our staff during conferences. Your generosity and thoughtfulness mean so much to our team. We truly appreciate you!

Congratulations to our drama department on an incredible production. If you had the chance to attend, you know how impressive the performance was. Our students shone on stage, and we are so proud of their hard work. A special shout-out to Mr. Patten for his outstanding direction and dedication.

Please continue encouraging your students to arrive to class on time. While an occasional late arrival isn’t the end of the world, consistent lateness builds habits that can suggest punctuality isn’t important or that others’ time isn’t respected. These habits can carry over into future responsibilities, including employment—where being late is one of the most common reasons teens and young adults struggle or lose jobs. Your partnership in reinforcing this life skill makes a big difference.

As required by OAR 581-53-0210 (2) (b), all students in Eugene School District 4J are to receive instructions on bus safety during the first half of the 2024-2025 school year. The intent of the rule is to reach the occasional riders who find themselves on a bus because of a field trip, activity trip, etc. This is an ODE mandatory training.

Students completed this training in their Advisory classes. We are making this information available to parents to follow up at home.

The YMCA is collaborating with HOOTS (Helping Out Our Teens in Schools) to offer a community presentation, “Empowering Parents to Support Youth Mental Health.” This session will provide valuable insight into the current trends we are seeing in youth mental health and suicidality, along with practical tools to help adults support youth in crisis.

While their trusted adult attends the presentation, teens are invited to enjoy our facility with a complimentary guest pass.

Our presentation will be given by Community Vision's Assistive Technology (AT) Lab. They have been doing amazing work in developing AT education so that more people can get the AT they need to live more independent lives.

Write Club gives youth the opportunity to find their writing community while having time set aside for their creative writing endeavors. It’s a place they feel comfortable exploring, writing, and sharing with others. 

We offer Write Club at two times:

Our community is rich with resources and skilled, compassionate providers. Our hope is that this guide will be a support to families as they navigate systems and access services. At this time, Relief Nursery is not able to translate the entire Resource Guide into Spanish, though we recognize the need and hope to pursue that project in the future. The Resource Guide includes some Spanish language translation, particularly in the areas that specifically focus on serving Hispanic and Latino clients, English as a Second Language classes, and Immigration and Migrant services.
