Happy sunny, and warm weekend! The sun is finally out, and the warm weather is here to stay, hopefully. The warmer weather also signifies that we are getting close to the end of the school year. We are down to 5 weeks left; hard to believe the school year has gone so fast! In the next 5 weeks, seniors will be preparing for graduation, teachers will be wrapping up their year long classes, and students (and staff as well) will need to stay focused on school. I encourage you to keep reaching out to your student’s teachers, keep checking StudentVue and Canvas, and keep checking in with you student(s) about assignments, classes and homework.
Five weeks will go by fast, and before you know it, it will be summer time! Happy sunny and warm week ahead!

Electronics Recycling Competition results – Churchill High School is a winner!
Churchill High is one of 6 winners of the Electronics Recycling Competition! (Please see link below for full results.) Churchill placed second, in our category of schools that have 701+ students, for the Electronics Recycling Competition this year. We collected 1,477 pounds!
Partners for Sustainable Schools, NextStep Recycling, and Lane County Waste Management thank you for your participation in the Electronics Recycling Competition. Collectively schools collected over 33,000 pounds (16.5 tons) of e-waste this year — that’s twice the amount collected last year!
- Preventing electronic waste is one of the top things we can do: it prevents toxics in our environment, recovers important materials that can be reused in new electronics, and provides volunteer and staff opportunities in our community.
- NextStep’s program are special in the ways in which they partner with agencies and organizations – they work with community agencies and organizations to offer job and social skills training to community members of all abilities.

- Electronics can be recycled throughout the year at NextStep (245 Jackson Street, Eugene, OR 97402 – Monday – Friday / 8:30am -2:00pm), and items can be purchased at their Reuse Store (987 Garfield Street Suite 2, Eugene, OR 97402 – Monday – Friday / 9 am – 5 pm). How to Request Tech Help
Students and families: You can request help for your student computer online.
Go to technologysupport.4j.lane.edu and look for the red button in the top right corner. (You can also find this link on the CHS website under the Students menu, then Technology.) The Technology Support page has lots of helpful information about commonly-asked questions, or you can fill out a tech support ticket and a Technology Support Specialist will respond.
Students do not need to leave the classroom to request tech help. Students can submit a tech support ticket while on campus and our Technology Support Specialist can respond by email.
For the best response, please give complete information about the problem you are experiencing.
Never leave your student laptop unattended.
Reminder: NEVER leave your student laptop unattended. Do not leave it in a classroom or hallway. Take it with you or put it in your locker when you are not using it. Never leave a computer in your vehicle. Do not leave your backpack in a vehicle where it can be seen by potential thieves. From a thief’s perspective, any backpack might have a valuable laptop computer inside.

Volunteer for Free Bikes for Kids
We recently collected 400 bikes from the community and at the moment we are in need of folks to help clean and fix them in preparation for our Giveaway Day, where we match the bikes with kids. There is no experience necessary to volunteer. We are running 4 refurbishment sessions a week (3 weekday evenings, and on Saturday mornings as well). This would be a great opportunity for students looking to get involved in their community, and our volunteers have lots of fun while working to help a great cause.

Fire Camp
Fire Camp is for any female-identifying youth that is between 15 and 19 years old and is June 26–30, 2023. All applications must be submitted by May 19th, 2023.
This unique camp instills self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership by utilizing fire service activities as a catalyst for this growth. Our curriculum is dynamic and physically challenging, but exceptionally rewarding for participants. During the camp, you will be issued firefighting gear and participate in activities related to the fire service, emergency medical services, and other fields.
