Today was the Senior Assembly, which means we are heading into the last week for our wonderful class of 2023. It feels like we just started the year, but now, here we are, down to our last two weeks.
So much has happened this year, and during the past 4 years of high school that our senior class has experienced. Their freshman year was cut short due to the “two week” COVID shutdown, their sophomore year was spent in hybrid learning at home, half of their Junior year we all wore masks and still practiced social distancing, and now their Senior year, the “normal year.” What a crazy high school experience! And yet, through it all, this class of 2023 has shown grit, perseverance, kindness, strength, and a desire to make the best of what they have, and have a lot of fun while doing it.
I am so proud of this class of Seniors, and call it a true honor to have been their principal this year. I can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things that each and every one of our graduates will do!!

Student Climate and Culture Survey
Students will need to take the District’s Climate survey again before the end of the year. The information gathered from the survey will be shared with the district and each school so we can better understand how our students feel while they are in school, how we can better support them, and what is needed to improve each school from the student’s perspective.

- Answers are completely confidential and we will not know how each student responded.

Senior Signing Day
Attention senior student-athletes. If you have signed a letter of intent to participate in college athletics, please email Mr. Hoberg by Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Senior Signing Day is Wednesday, June 7th, at 6:00 pm on the turf field (prior to the Power Tough game).
Library Books are due soon!!
Seniors: All library books and textbooks are due back this Friday, June 9th. You must return all your books or pay the replacement costs to pick up your diploma. Debbie will work with you if you’re experiencing financial hardship. You can email her at levy_d@4j.lane.edu, or call her at 541-790-5138.
Freshmen’, sophomores’ and juniors’ textbooks and library books are due on the last day of school, Thursday, June 15th.
Students can pick up a cool water bottle sticker when they return their book, one per week while supplies last.
Students can borrow a stack of library books for the summer. Talk to Debbie or Jennifer in the library for more info!

How to Request Tech Help
Students and families: You can request help for your student computer online.
Go to technologysupport.4j.lane.edu and look for the red button in the top right corner. (You can also find this link on the CHS website under the Students menu, then Technology.) The Technology Support page has lots of helpful information about commonly-asked questions, or you can fill out a tech support ticket and a Technology Support Specialist will respond.
Students do not need to leave the classroom to request tech help. Students can submit a tech support ticket while on campus and our Technology Support Specialist can respond by email.
For the best response, please give complete information about the problem you are experiencing.
Never leave your student laptop unattended.
Reminder: NEVER leave your student laptop unattended. Do not leave it in a classroom or hallway. Take it with you or put it in your locker when you are not using it. Never leave a computer in your vehicle. Do not leave your backpack in a vehicle where it can be seen by potential thieves. From a thief’s perspective, any backpack might have a valuable laptop computer inside.

Paid Study
Have you ever wondered how the teen brain works? Researchers at the University of Oregon need their help to learn more about the ways teens think, act, and develop into adults. They are looking for 14-16 year old girls to participate in a 3-year psychology study. Eligible participants will: do computer tasks, answer questionnaires, learn about science, get pictures of their brains, and earn $75-$140 per session. Permission from a parent or legal guardian is required for participation. Interested teen girls and their parents can sign up at: uodsnlab.com/participate or call/text: (541) 357-7639. The DSN Lab – Developmental and Social Affective Neuroscience Labs are under the supervision of Profs. Jennifer Pfeifer and Elliot Berkman in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon.

2023 Graduation Party
11th and 12th Grade Parents — One more week until graduation and the graduation committee is asking for any volunteers to come to the University of Oregon Rec Center at 8 pm on Monday night to help with setting up the party. This is a great opportunity for upcoming class parents to see what the fuss is all about and to be thinking of what kind of event they would like to plan when their time comes. Our graduation committee will be truly grateful for your help.
Senior students — while you can purchase admission to the party at the door, we ask that you try to purchase your tickets this week so we can get a good headcount. If you need transportation to and from the party, please check the box on the release form available in the school office or online.

Description: Unified Physical Education provides a unique opportunity for students with and without disabilities to come together through ongoing educational and physical activities. The Unified Physical Education course is structured around the national physical education standards and grade-level outcomes, which include gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a health-enhancing level of fitness. Additionally, the class supports the development of leadership skills for all students, and the empowerment of ALL students to foster an inclusive class and school-wide environment. Summer Reading at Eugene Public Library
Eugene Public Library’s Summer Reading program helps students keep their skills up while school’s out and offers a full calendar of free fun. Starting June 1, visit the Downtown Library, Bethel Branch, or Sheldon Branch to get your all-ages Book Bingo cards. Plus kids and teens can each choose a free book to keep.
No library card is needed to participate. But to get the most out of your library, sign up to get one! Library cards are free for all 4J students and for all children ages 0-5 who live in the 4J district.

Youth Discovery Project Flyer (PDF)
The Youth Discovery Project is a weekly afterschool program on Tuesdays, 4–6 pm, for ages 13–17. Participants will design, build, craft, cultivate, laugh, lead, and learn while diving into inspiring projects that include: Bamboo Shelter Building, Earthen Cob Wall Construction; Bow and Arrow Making, Living Willow Structures, Farm Animal Intelligence Experiments, Mushroom Log Propagation, Biochar Creation, Woven Garden Structures, Bowl and Mask Making, Giant Tree Hang-Out Designing, and Much More.
