Hello, Churchill families and students;
Welcome to October! So crazy to think the first full month of school has gone by and we are heading into midterms next week. If you have not already done so, please check with your student(s) about their classes, their grades, any missing assignments they might have, and if they have any projects or tests that will be due next week before midterm grades are submitted on Friday, Oct. 14th. I would also encourage you to reach out to your student(s) teachers if you have questions or concerns. They are always willing to help and would love to hear from you.
Speaking of reaching out: Meet the Administrative team at CHS!! We are also always here to help.

On Wednesday, October 12th, most 10th-grade students and a select number of 11th-grader students will be taking the PSAT during the school day. This is a district-wide event at all high schools. While our 10th graders are testing, our 9th grade, those 11th grader students not taking the PSAT, and 12th graders will attend their regularly scheduled classes. This is a full day of school, but with a modified schedule, see below. ALL buses will run on their regularly scheduled routes and times.
PSAT Study guides can be picked up in the College and Career Center. Booklets were also passed out in 10th-grade English classes for those students who have this class Tri. 1. If you do want a study guide, come to the College and Career Center, or see your counselor.
A few things your student will need for next Wednesday if they are taking the test:
*(Most 10th and select 11th graders will test from 8:30 am to 12:40 pm. The test may take until 1:00 or later to complete.)
Parents: Please make appropriate arrangements to pick up your student from school.
The PSAT may take until 1:00 or later to complete for some groups of students.
Students who are not taking the PSAT will be released to lunch at 12:40 pm.
Buses will run at their normal times.
Access to grades in ParentVUE and StudentVUE will be closed at 4:00 on Monday for midterm grading. Check Canvas to see assignments and grades.
The Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Instruction will be hosting a screening of the film I’m Not Racist…Am I? We are limited to the number of people who can attend this screening due to auditorium space at each high school. Please register soon to save your spot!!

If you have questions or concerns, you can reach the Equity department at 541-790-7576
Additional information about the movie screening:
The Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Instruction will be hosting a screening of the film I’m Not Racist…Am I? Each region will host a screening at their high school the week of October 17th-20th for students and families of that region.
This film follows a diverse group of 12 students over the course of one school year who come together for a yearlong exploration of race and racism as part of the Calhoun School’s national Deconstructing Race initiative. This film is sure to bring up a wide range of emotions and may jump-start some difficult conversations at home and in the classroom for students. While we hope that most of the discussions regarding this film take place between students and their families, we understand that topics at home often make their way to school. 4j staff will also have an opportunity to view the movie as well so they too can be aware and discuss if need be.
To maximize your screening experience, the following resources were created to help you discuss race, racism, inclusion, and belonging before and after your screening.
We would like to celebrate our students when everyone is in class and on time for 1st period! When this occurs, teachers will notify Administration that they have perfect attendance, and then we will come to the class to celebrate, recognize their effort, and share a small prize with the teacher and class. We hope to branch this out to all classes as the year goes on to be in class, on time, and ready to learn.
Site Council is a group of teachers, support staff, students, and parent representatives who determine the mission, vision, and school improvement goals for Churchill High School. Churchill is looking for new community members that would like to be part of this important work. Our meetings are once a month and will always honor the time of our team. Please contact Assistant Principal Lancelot Falcon (falcon_l@4j.lane.edu) for further information.
