Hello, Churchill families and students;
First, I am thankful for you all! This has been a fast paced first trimester at Churchill High School, filled with lots of ups and downs, laughter, craziness, silliness, and tons of smiles. I hope everyone can find time this long weekend to relax, spend times with friends and family, and recoup.
Secondly, the trimester will end this Wednesday, and second trimester will start Monday, Dec. 5th. Please help your students as they study for finals, turn in their last assignments and prepare for the next trimester. As always, please reach out to teachers, the front office, the attendance office, and administration if you have any questions.

Trimester 2 is just around the corner
Please check your Tri 2 schedule. If your schedule has errors, please use the Schedule Change Form to request a change. The form is now open on the Churchill website, and the QR code is posted by the counseling offices and in the halls. The Master Schedule of classes is posted near the counseling offices if you need to find when a course is offered.
Enter the requested change only once, then keep checking your Student/Vue and 4J email to see if the change has been made or if your counselor has a question. Again, a change may be requested only for an error, such as a missing or incorrect course, or classes needed for graduation. Changes will not be made simply for a student to be with friends or to change teachers in the same subject area.

We need your feedback – Parent survey
We want to hear from your!! This year, Churchill High School is going through it’s 4-year cycle to renew our accreditation. Part of this process it to get parent feedback about how you think we are doing as a high school. Questions on the survey range from teaching and learning, school leadership, resources, and ways we can improve.

Seniors Graduation Credits
Important! Seniors– be certain to check your Tri 2 and Tri 3 schedules to make certain you have the courses and credits you need for graduation. Be sure you have completed and submitted your LEAP contract, and you have a plan for meeting Career Related Experiences (CRLs). All LEAP contracts are due November 30.
If you are planning to attend college or trade school, make sure you are taking the courses required for admission.
If you need a schedule change, please put the request in the Schedule Change Request Form as soon as possible. The form is now open on the Churchill website, and the QR code is posted by the counseling offices and in the halls. The Master Schedule of classes is posted near the counseling offices if you need to find when a course is offered.
Student-Athletes
All students who are participating in school sports are required by OSAA to be enrolled and passing 2.0 credits (4 classes) for both the trimester before their sport AND the trimester during their sport. If you are not scheduled for 2.0 credits (4 classes) during both of those trimesters, use the Schedule Change form to add enough classes for you to meet this participation requirement.
Middle School Math Credit Forms
Do you have a current 9th grader who took Algebra or Geometry at a 4J middle school last year? Be on the lookout for a Middle School Math Credit Consent form in the mail. If you and your student are happy with the final grade on the form and would like it to appear on your student’s high school transcript, please sign the form and return it to our registrar for processing. If you do not receive a form for your child by the end of November and believe that your student should have gotten one, please reach out to our registrar. All contact options for our registrar can be found on the form itself or under our staff directory page on our website.
Textbook return for the end of Trimester 1
Please Return or Renew Textbooks by Wednesday, 11/30! Students should return their textbooks directly to the library by the end of the school day on Wednesday, November 30th. Students should never give their books to their teacher or leave them in the classroom. Instead, students should return their books directly to the library. If students need to use their books again in Trimester 2, they can stop by the library and renew them, even if they don’t have their book with them. Thank you for helping ensure we have enough textbooks for all students.
Exciting news! Pre-College Mentors at CHS
We are fortunate to have SAIL (Summer Academy to Inspire Learning) pre-college mentors on our campus. They can help students research colleges and scholarships, fill out applications, answer questions about what college is like, register for standardized tests, and much more. They will be located in the College & Career Center. Students can see them on a drop-in basis (schedule below) or arrange to have a set time to meet with them regularly.

- Wednesday: 8:00 am–3:30 pm
- Thursday: 9:00 am–3:30 pm
We hope students will take advantage of this amazing and valuable opportunity.

1. University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa: Mon, Nov 28 @ Lunch in F39
Established in 1907, the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is the largest and oldest of the 10 UH campuses. Mānoa offers hundreds of undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees; a strong, vital research program; and nationally ranked NCAA Division I athletics. UH Mānoa is a research university of international standings.
2. Oregon Tech: Tues, Dec 6 @ Lunch in F39
Oregon Tech is a public university based in Klamath Falls and the Portland metropolitan area with a presence throughout the Pacific Northwest. It’s also Oregon’s only polytechnic university, meaning they emphasize technical subjects and applied sciences. They offer nearly 50 bachelor’s and advanced degree programs, and offers a rigorous, experiential education that allows students to pursue their passions and professional opportunities in internships, externships and field experiences.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA) are available online. The FAFSA and ORSAA are forms that seniors fill out to apply for money for college. Apply early as some funds are limited. You will fill out the FAFSA OR the ORSAA.

The Oregon Promise Application is now open. The Oregon Promise is funding from the State of Oregon that helps students pay tuition at any Oregon Community College. The application is not long or time-consuming, although students must fill out the FAFSA or ORSAA to be considered. We recommend that students fill out the Oregon Promise application even if going to a community college is not their first choice. We don’t want you to miss deadlines! The College and Career Center needs volunteers like you!
Volunteers are needed for the College and Career Center. If you have a spare hour or two a week to help us, consider joining our team. Do you just love managing data and spreadsheets? We need you. Are crafts your thing? We need you too. Are you good at coordinating programs and reaching out to community members? We need a community service coordinator. Does writing make you smile? We need someone to write posts for social media, announcements, emails, etc. Need a flexible schedule? Some tasks can be done entirely remotely. But, if you want to immerse yourself in our active campus, you are welcome. Would you rather help us on an as-need basis? Yep, we always need extra hands.

Virtual Movie Screening of “The Upstanders”
Virtual screenings will be available from December 5th thru December 12th.
The movie, “The Upstanders” is unsettling and uplifting, causing us all to examine our behavior, inspiring us to do better, be better, and stand up against victimization and cyber-bullying. 4J Families can view The Upstanders virtually between December 5th at 8 AM PST and December 12th at 8:30 PM. The link for viewing will be sent to all families via email.
In partnership with 4J Prevention Services, there will also be a community screening on December 9th from 6-7 pm with a debrief following immediately after, from 7-8 pm at the Campbell Community Center.
The Upstanders delves deep into cyber-bullying, showing the perspectives of those who bully, their victims, and the trauma of the bystander. Woven through this film is the very personal, first-hand account of a family’s tragic loss that inspired new legislation to turn the tide against this very real epidemic. True stories are featured alongside the latest scientific and medical research and strategies to empower all communities to stand up against bullying.
The 56-minute film features in-depth interviews with kids, families who have lost their children to cyber-bullying-related suicide, and the very best experts in the world from prestigious institutions including Stanford University and Child Mind Institute in NYC. The Upstanders also includes two members of Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour: Jesse Israel of The Big Quiet, Radha Agrawal of Daybreaker, and author of Belong.
Covid-19 has only acerbated this problem of cyber abuse, by providing a bully-ripe environment of isolation, anxiety, and increased time on screens. Most often driven by pain, bullies are searching for that jolt of power when putting someone else down – and there is plenty of pain going around now.
Through its experts, the film explores

- Why kids are afraid to admit they are cyber-bullied and what signs to watch for
- Best ways to support your cyber-bullied child
- How to realize if you are harboring a cyber-bully
